Set a cron-based schedule once and ScreenshotAPI takes automated screenshots of any page (hourly, daily, weekly, or on your own custom timing), stores every capture, and alerts your team by email. The Basics

What are scheduled website screenshots?

Scheduled website screenshots are automated captures of a web page taken at recurring intervals you define, such as every hour, every day at 9am, or every Monday morning. Instead of visiting a page and capturing it by hand, you set the schedule once and a server takes the screenshot for you, whether you are online or not. Each capture is stored with its date and time, so over weeks and months you build a visual record of exactly how a page looked and when it changed.

ScreenshotAPI runs scheduled captures with cron-based timing. You configure the URL and options in the Query Builder, choose a frequency, and manage every recurring job from the Schedule Requests tab in your dashboard. Captures run automatically and are kept in persistent storage for later review and comparison. You can read the full setup walkthrough in the scheduled screenshots API documentation.

Set it once

A cron expression defines the frequency. Hourly, daily, weekly, monthly, or a custom pattern of your own.

Captures run server-side

No browser extension, no open tab, no one at a desk. The capture happens on schedule without user presence.

Every capture archived

Screenshots are stored securely and stay available for review, audits, and before-and-after comparison.

Screenshotapi.net is one of the most simple yet amazing service that saved us hours of development. I have used (and still using) their API for 8 months already without a hitch. The best part we loved is that they store the generated screenshot on their own storage location so we don't have to deal with storage at first hand.

I am using your API to download the screenshot via PHP and then using the screenshot image without further requirement of the API get request. The screenshots are perfect and I really appreciate the quality of the image. I've hosted my project on my portfolio with the screenshots as my portfolio images!

Step by Step

How to schedule automated website screenshots

Cron looks cryptic the first time you see it. It is just five fields: minute, hour, day of month, month, and day of week. Read it left to right and any schedule makes sense.

  1. Open the Query Builder

Sign in to your ScreenshotAPI dashboard and open the Query Builder.

  2. Configure the capture

Enter the target URL and set any capture options you need, such as file type, full page capture, or CSS to hide cookie banners.

  3. Choose Schedule Screenshot

Select the Schedule Screenshot option and set your cron expression, either from a preset or a custom pattern.

  4. Manage jobs in Schedule Requests

Every recurring job appears in the Schedule Requests tab, where you can Start, Stop, Delete, or View Screenshots for each job.

Common cron expressions for scheduled website screenshots and what each one means
ScheduleCron expressionWhat it does
Every minute* * * * *Runs at the start of every minute. Best for short stress tests, not long-term monitoring.
Hourly0 * * * *Runs at minute 0 of every hour, 24 captures per day.
Daily at 9am0 9 * * *Runs once per day at 09:00. The most common choice for competitor and price monitoring.
Weekly on Monday0 8 * * 1Runs every Monday at 08:00. Good for slower-moving pages and weekly reports.
Monthly0 9 1 * *Runs on the 1st of each month at 09:00. Suited to compliance snapshots and archives.
Business hours, weekdays*/30 9-17 * * 1-5Runs every 30 minutes between 09:00 and 17:00, Monday through Friday.

Stop a job, do not delete it, if you want to keep the history

Stopping a job pauses future captures and keeps everything already taken. Deleting a job removes the job and permanently deletes all of its related screenshots. If a capture archive matters for compliance or legal evidence, always stop instead of delete.

Website Monitoring Tool

A Screenshot API built for Website Monitoring

Change detection tools tell you that something changed. A timestamped screenshot archive shows you what the page actually looked like, before and after, in a form you can share, audit, or submit as evidence.

Schedule the capture

Point a recurring job at any page you need to watch: a competitor pricing page, your own homepage, a search results page, or a page you must archive for compliance.

Let it run unattended

Captures execute server-side on your cron schedule. Nobody has to remember to check the page, and nothing is missed on weekends or holidays.

Get notified by email

Email alerts keep your team in the loop as scheduled captures come in, so changes surface in your inbox instead of waiting to be discovered.

Compare and act

Every capture is stored with its timestamp. Open the archive, place versions side by side, and see exactly what changed and when it changed.
